World Mental Health Day , 10 October 2023

Today we celebrate world mental health day.

We have come a long way in recognising the importance of good mental health and wellbeing and we must continue to support each other to speak up and seek support, to ensure that mental health and wellbeing is given the same priority as physical health.

Everyone deserves to have access to support for their mental health and wellbeing. In Scotland approximately one in four people will be affected my poor mental health and wellbeing this year. If you are struggling, you are not alone, and we are all likely to come into contact with someone today who is struggling with their mental health.

There is a lot you can do to support good mental health and wellbeing and continue to reduce stigma. Have an open conversation with those closest to you. Talking can help and can enable others to open up about their mental health and wellbeing, and will give you the opportunity to discuss how you are feeling. If you are lacking motivation consider what you can do differently today. Embrace your creativity – draw a picture or try something new. Get out into the fresh air if you can, and think about changes you can make to have a more fulfilling life. We have recently launched the Angus Nature Prescription NHS-nature-calendar_FINAL-A5.pdf (angushscp.scot) which is full of seasonal activities around Angus.

Consider an appointment with the listening service, a social prescriber or mental health and wellbeing peer worker if you are struggling with your mental health and wellbeing, and need some support. These supports are all based in your local GP practice and can offer an appointment in your local area. Please see below information about how to get in touch with these confidential services.

The Community Listening Service 50-minute confidential appointments to talk through any life situation such as bereavement, loss, work, family, caring responsibilities, or chronic conditions.  People can discover strength and find hope when they are able to share what’s on their mind.
